Citizens' Handbook 1946

The small size and thin paper used for this handbook reflect the austerity of the time. Despite this there are sixteen black and white photographs reproduced in the centre pages, some of which are below.

The guide begins with a 2-page history of Welwyn Garden City, and an account of the division of powers and responsibilities between the Urban District Council and the Welwyn Garden City Company. The councillors of the U.D.C. are listed (8 labour and 7 independent), plus its officers, followed by the directors of WGC Limited and its officers. After this are sections on clubs and societies, churches, health facilities, hotels, industries, political organizations, schools, and sporting facilities and clubs.
