This book is a guide to the counties of Sussex, Surrey, Kent, London, Middlesex, East Berkshire, South East Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and South West Essex. The first two thirds of the book is a description by the author of the area covered, mostly concerning topography and buildings. This section is illustrated with about 40 photographs, a few in colour, and including one (p. 45) of an unnamed street in Welwyn Garden City (below).
The last part of the book gives 12 suggested tours within the home counties which would be day trips by car or coach, or two-to-three day outings on a bicycle. Each tour describes the itinerary. The first 6 have a map of the route but not the last 6. Route 10 starts at Regent's Park and takes in St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, Harpenden and Berkhamstead amongst other places.
The 'About Britain' guides were sponsored by the Brewers' Society as their conribution to The Festival of Britain 1951.
