Roger Filler's book gives a full and interesting account of Welwyn Garden City
from the events leading up to the founding of the town by Ebenezer Howard and
his associates in 1919/1920 until the present time (1986). I would say the account
is people-based, and the account describes many of the town's prominent figures.
There are 98 black and white illustrations which are mostly photographs of past
residents and architecture - domestic, civil and commercial/industrial. Below
is a picture from the book of Sir Frederic Osborn with Dame Flora Robson - two
prominent figures from the town's history.
Most of the photographs are well-reproduced and are one third to one half page in size. There a few aerial shots including an interesting one of the opening of the new Welwyn Department Store in June 1939. Below is a shot of Welwyn Theatre which was opened in 1928.
