I suppose that I first became interested in castles and cathedrals when at the age of eight or so, my school class was taken to see Rochester castle in Kent.
Only ever having seen the castle from a distance I remember being amazed at the sheer size of it.
I later visited Dover castle, but as I grew older my interests were diverted in other directions.
At the moment this site features Rochester castle, Rochester cathedral, Dover castle, The Tower of London and Canterbury cathedral as its subject matter but there are many Kent castles to follow.
I have also written accounts of two medieval sieges, namely those of 1215 and 1216 at Rochester and Dover castles respectively.
