About the Orchestra |
|
Having met for the first time in February 2004, the Buckinghamshire Chamber Orchestra has presented a series of concerts in North Buckinghamshire with Musical Director, Catherine Rose.
The Orchestra specialises in the Classical, Baroque and Early Romantic periods, but occasionally ventures into music of the 20th or even 21st century. As a Chamber Orchestra with a complement of twenty-eight strong players, it is able to present anything from Symphonies and Concertos, to works that are often neglected by the large Symphony Orchestra, such as Octets, Decets and Serenades. We would love to talk to audience members who wish to become supporters of the Orchestra, and opportunities for local businesses to sponsor concerts in return for publicity and hospitality before and after the event. |

Catherine Rose studied music at Bristol University, specialising in horn, hand-horn and the music of Varese. She then spent two years as a post-graduate horn-player at the Royal College of Music, gaining the first ever scholarship as Attached Student to the London Sinfonietta Education Programme. She became Education and Outreach Officer for Endymion Ensemble in 1987, and has worked on education projects for a number of orchestras in the UK and Sweden. She also taught at the Bedford Saturday Morning Music School for 14 years, where she conducted a brass ensemble and the Second Orchestra. She has also worked as Tutor to the horn sections of the Bedfordshire County First and Third Orchestras.
She was the Education Programme Director for Sinfonia 21 for 7 years, leading an innovative programme with professional musicians and composers, including the Music and Science Project. She is now a Trustee of Sinfonia 21. As an independent arts consultant and journalist, she is currently working with clients including Arts Council England, Arts Professional Magazine, the Specialist Schools’ Trust and Youth Music.
