Kerioned These are right beside the D768 and signposted at a crossroads. There is a small parking space at the turn off. You need a torch for this site as there are some unusual carvings here. The site is also known as “The Mound of the Dwarfs”. The passage graves lie on three sides of a rectangle that is open to the south. Two are parallel to each other at the west and east and both have long passages. The western grave is visually the most striking. The 9m length of stones rise to the north and you can walk right through it under the stones. The central grave is overgrown but the huge capstone is visible.

| It is
thought that originally there had been a stone setting or circle around
the site and three stones remain in a line just to the west and there is
another to the north. |

It is the third grave that is most interesting though as this has the rock art. Modern steps lead down to the passage beside the road where eight of the stones bear carvings. These carvings are different to those found elsewhere.
Several
of the right hand slabs (facing inwards) have arcs, “figurines”, axe
shapes and several arrangements of interlocking squares on them. On the
end wall are wavy lines like serpents and more squares and rectangles.
Someone had previously chalked the lines in that made it a lot easier to
locate them. |
