Mané
Rutuel This is not so easy to find but starting from the car park for the Menhir Brisé drive or walk on along the fence around the site and turn right by the church onto a narrow lane that has a sign giving you priority. Carry on until you come to a large broken menhir on the right where there is room to park and a path just ahead leads to the tomb.
The broken menhir Follow the path and be impressed by the sheer size of the huge capstone

| It
seems that the local youth use this as a meeting place as there is a lot
of debris and graffiti in there. The site is known as the Tomb of the
Witch. The low entrance leads to a 9m long passage that is only 1.2m (4ft)
high. The main chamber is divided into two by two transverse pillars and
the second chamber is made up of concrete walls to support the huge
capstone.

| This
capstone was probably a decorated standing stone that has been recycled as
a useful part for a burial chamber. This huge stone measures 11.3x4.4m and
is 0.6m thick and weighs about 40 tons. The underside of the capstone has
a large carved form that measures 4x3m.
Two
of the supporting stones have carvings, one with axeheads and the other
with two curved forms like a shepherds’ crook. |
