Men-Marz We were looking for a campsite along the north coast of Finistère and found an excellent one on the beach to the west of the town – the Phare site. As a bonus there is a very large standing stone on the way to the campsite. From Lesneven take the D770 north to Brigognan and follow the signs for the campsite and the Phare menhir once you reach the town. |

This is a huge tapered stone 8m (27ft) high. It has a wide base, about 3m (10ft) and tapers towards the top where a cross has been added. Right beside it is a second menhir but this has fallen. This is called Men-Marz, the “Miracle Stone”. The legend associated with it is that St Pol de Leon came here to stop the sea eroding the land and this stone was put up to mark the spot – perhaps they just put the cross on it. A very impressive stone.
