St Guénolé
Museum and passage grave
Finistère

This museum is well signed from the D53 main road and is at the far SW of Finistere in the coastal village of St Guénolé. The museum was originally set up in 1919. We were looking for a campsite as it was getting late so the museum was closed however a lot of exhibits are outside including the re-erected passage grave shown below.

Run-Amor
Re-erected passage grave
Originally at Plomeur

This grave was excavated in 1880 and from the notes was rebuilt outside the museum. It was originally at Plomeur a few kilometers to the NE.

Two long passages lead from a circular chamber, one to the north that is 16.5m long and one to the east that is 12m long. It is an allée coudée, an angled passage grave.

Also in the grounds of the museum is a collection of Iron Age stelae and several Celtic domed menhirs.
