Castleruddery
Henge/Circle
Wicklow

From Piper Stones continue south on the N81 for about 6 miles passing the turning for Donard (where there is the only campsite we could find in the area) and you will come to a signed turning on the left to the site.

This is a henge monument or embanked enclosure. It consists of an earthen bank 30m diameter lined on the interior with 29 upright stones. There is a possible entrance to the SE formed by 2 large granite boulders. The henge is surrounded by an outer ditch about 60m diameter which is only visible from the air. Nearby is a motte (earthenwork castle) built in the 12th century to overlook the river crossing but it is on private land so can’t be visited.
