Hethpool Take the B6351 turning off the A697 west of Wooler and take the left turn signed to Hethpool after a couple of miles. Drive for about 2 miles as far as the cattle grid and park in the space provided just beyond it. You can see the circle ahead on the right side of the road.
All but one of the 7 stones have fallen except for the leaning one to the south. The tallest is about 2m (6.5ft) in length and there are more partially buried stones to the NE. It is thought that there could once have been two circles here and could have been one of the largest circles in Northern England. In 1935 a survey concluded that it was an open ended horseshoe shape - the open end being 61m across. There are three outliers to the NE and one long fallen stone to the south. The circle is set in beautiful scenery in a valley with hills all around.
