Spiral Carvings on Long Meg

Little Meg
Stone Circle
NY 577 376

Return to the crossroads leading back to Little Salkeld and turn left. Go for ˝ mile passing a couple of buildings then when you reach trees on the left look for a gap between them where there is a gate. Park on the verge. The circle is against the hedgerow about 200 metres into the edge of the field.

This is a small kerb circle about 20 feet (6 metres) across. Beside the tallest stone that is about 3˝ feet (1.1 metres) tall there is a low slab with two large spiral carvings on it.

These carvings are fairly faint but can be seen. Another carved stone from this site was removed and put in the Tullie House museum in Carlisle.
