Breasclete Cairn
Kerb Cairn
NB 218 348

As you drive towards Breasclete on the A858 park in the parking space provided to visit the cairn on the right. It is next to a right turning. The cairn is on the other side of the road. It is just 100m south of the school.

The site was identified by Margaret Curtis when the road was being widened in 1995. The remaining half of a kerb cairn has been exposed and restored. Quartz tools were also found at the site.

The cairn is 8.4m across and excavation has revealed that it was in use for a long period of time and redesigned and reconstructed twice. It originally had an open central area with a horseshoe shaped bank with inner and outer kerbs. Then a paved passage and chamber were added, then finally a cist was built.
