Callanish IV
Ceann Hulavig – “Head of Hula Bay”
NB 230 304

From the main Callanish site head back to the A858. Turn right and continue along the main road for about a mile. Take a right turn signed to Uig, the B8011. After a mile you will be able to just see the stones on top of the hill to your right.

Park safely on the side of the road and cross the barbed wire fence at the stile. The ground is very wet.

Five large stones form an ellipse on the top of the hill. They are between 2.1-2.7m (7-9ft) high in a 13.3x9.5m ellipse inside an excavated area of peat. The inner hollow is very wet and inside the ring is a pile of stones, the remains of a cairn, with the largest of the stones being about 0.6m set on edge.

View just showing the remains of the cairn

The standing stones have an attractive covering of lichen.
