Dun Borve
Broch and cupmarks
NG 034 940

From Horgabost drive on for about 2 miles to Borve. Look for a house on the left with a left turn track heading to another house. It is about the second house on the left after passing Borve Lodge. There is room to park. Go through the green metal gate on the right that leads over an old stone bridge. Over the bridge turn left and head to the small metal gate. Go through this and head uphill to the right up to an old concrete water tank. Turn right here and follow the loch around, crossing over the low dam then along the other bank. Head towards the hilltop with the ruins of the broch on it. It is very boggy. Climb to the top for excellent views.

The broch is about 14m across on the top of the hill, littered all around are fallen stones from its structure, many have been used to make farming structures nearby. The cupmarks are just 25m to the ESE from the cairn on the top on a flat slab of rock that is about 4m long.

There are about 80 cupmarks but many are hardly visible through weathering and unless there has been rain recently they do not show up. However some are very clear and deep. The sizes range from about 25-75mm (1-3 inches) across and are 10-50mm (½ - 2 inches) deep. There are a few more on some nearby smaller flat slabs.
