Ettrick Bay
Stone Circle
NS 044 668

This circle is just south of the A844 and is signposted. You will see the circle among a couple of trees about 200m inside a field on the left. There is very little space to park if the grass on the side of the road is soft. There is a gate into the field and a gate to the stones.

There are four large boulders that are immediately visible and we found three smaller stones in the long grass. The site is very overgrown. The stones appear to be surrounded by a circular bank measuring around 40m across and 1m high. There are several old stumps of large trees around the edge so it is unclear if this is a henge and where there were entrances.

Two large stones stand to the north, the tallest is 2.2m (over 7ft) and two more to the south, the other stones are around 1.5m (5ft), the southern stone is outside the ring. They form an ellipse with the two stumps and small boulder (1m) that we could locate and it measures approximately15x12m (50 x 40ft). The stumps are one to the east, one to the west and the boulder to the northwest.

There are standing stones some distance to the northeast and east but difficulty in parking makes access to these hard.
