Pobull Fhinn “Finn’s People” Stone Circle NF 844 650 This site is signposted from the A867 but the carpark indicated on the OS map and recommended to use in the tourist guide has a “Patrons Only” sign put in it from the small hotel there. Just before you reach the end of the lane there is a ruined house with room for two vehicles to fit off the road. Go through the two gates beside the hotel and follow the clear track to the site. You can see the stones as you approach. This is a really excellent site to visit, we were lucky as the weather brightened up and the views, stones and atmosphere are wonderful. The name of the circle relates to a hero of the Fenian tales of early Gaelic literature called Fionn mac Cumhaill. The site was prepared by cutting into the uphill side of the slope to the north and building up the south to create a level platform. As yet the site does not seem to have been excavated.

It is an ellipse about 38x28m (124x92ft) and we could see 21 large stones and many more smaller ones, but others are hidden in the heather. The northern arc has the stones built into the inside of the cut bank of the platform. There are two entrances to the circle with portal stones at each to the east and west. The west entrance has a 1.5m (5ft) fallen pillar and a 1.1m (3.5ft) standing stone. The tallest stone is to the ESE and reaches 2m (6.5ft)
