This section contains the inner southern circle. Many of the stones are missing and were used in local buildings including the small chapel near the circle. A large concrete slab marks the site of an obelisk that was over 6m (20ft) high.

The Z feature

Near this a line of stones, called the Z feature, leads towards the chapel and to the SE of the circle is the stump of the Ring Stone which has broken of and only a stump remains now of this large pillar with a hole through it.

Just beyond the stump are the two huge portal stones marking the southern causeway entrance to the circle.

Surrounding the circle is a deep ditch dug to create the outer bank. Originally the ditch was 9m (30ft) deep and the bank 6m (20ft) high – a massive construction. From here climb up onto the bank and follow the path to cross the road towards the stone rows of the West Kennet Avenue.
