From the A666 heading
towards Bolton turn off up a lane as you reach the village of Egerton.
There are several footpaths here leading up to the long mound shaped hill
where the circles are. There are a couple before the village but there is
nowhere to stop the car. You can park by the houses in the lane and head
uphill. The path we took before the farm track was quite vague and not
well walked so eventually we just headed directly to the top through the
tall tussocky grass in the fog. Once on the top the tallest thing you will
see is the concrete trig point and from here you will see the outlier.
Luckily the fog cleared a bit.
View from the outlier There are two stone circles up here and a cairn but all are in a fairly ruined state. The stones are also mostly small or fallen and lie in long grass.
The tallest stones The are about ten stones in the first circle but several are almost buried in the grass. The largest to the southwest is only 1½ feet (45cm) high and the outlier to the SSW is almost 2 feet (60cm). The circle seems to be about 40 feet (12 metres) across but again this is unclear.
The small cairn Just
to the NE is an overgrown small cairn with a central depression and
further in the same direction over the crest of the hill is a second ring
of fallen stones forming a circle of a similar size.
