This is another day out drive/walk to explore the various burial chambers and standing stones on the east of Anglesey. The best map is the OS 114 which covers the whole island.

Cromlech
Unnamed Burial Chamber
SH 539 722

Starting from the Britannia Bridge take the A5 signed Holyhead for a short distance and turn off on the A5025 towards Amlwch. Almost immediately pull into the side road and a burial chamber can be seen in the field on the left at SH 539 722. Unfortunately there is no access to it and the photograph is not so good as it was taken from the road and it was raining. (This was the weekend of the floods)

Standing Stone
SH 554 739

Continue on the A5025 and cross the roundabout then at the next crossroads, in under a mile, turn right. After about a quarter of a mile there is a gate on the left and a passing place to stop further on the right. The main standing stone here is quite impressive at SH 554 739. To reach it helped that the gate had fallen over and it is on the top of a hill in a field standing about 8ft (2.4m) high. Luckily the sun came out for this photograph. There is a smaller standing stone a couple of hundred metres southwest in a muddy field.

Standing Stones
Cremlin Farm

SH 572 774

Continue on this narrow lane to Llansadwrr and turn right on the B5109. After about a mile a house with the name sign Cremlin appears on the left. The lane here leads to a farm where there are two standing stones. Ask permission in the first house or the farm to visit the stones as the owners prefer this as the first stone is in the middle of a potato field. The stones are at SH 572 774 and SH 572 776. Park at the farm and you can see the first one in the field. When we visited in November the stone was covered in a sack, presumably as a scarecrow, and the potatoes had been picked. This is about 6ft (2m) high.

To reach the second stone walk up the lane to a gate, go through it and turn left. The 8ft (2.4m) standing stone is in the middle of the field.

Cromlech
Hendrefor Burial Chamber
SH 551 774

Return to the B5109 and turn right. After about 2 miles look out for a right bend sign by a tall stone wall on the left and just after it watch for a left turn with a footpath sign. Stop here and look over the wall to see what seems to be two burial chambers in the middle of the field at SH 551 774. There is no apparent access to this site as the field gate on the footpath does not open. We walked back along the road and opposite the cromlechs there is a newly cemented up section of wall where it looks as if people have climbed over.
