Gate Take the A6 from Bakewell towards Matlock and just after Rowsley (where there is an open all year campsite behind the Grouse and Claret pub) turn left to Beeley. At Beeley turn right where it is signed to the moor and continue up through the woods. When you reach the end of the trees there is parking space on the track on the left. Walk along the track beside the trees for a few hundred metres until you come to a gate and stile. Go over the stile and follow the track uphill. Continue on for a couple of hundred metres where it levels out and just before it bends to the right look for a rutted track heading north (on the right). Take this and you will reach the circle in 100m.

| Even in December most of the
stones are hidden in long grass but you should see the tallest one that is
almost 1m high to locate the site. This is an embanked circle of around
12m diameter. Several loose stones from the central cairn have been added
to the circle but it seems that 6 stones stand or lean and about another 5
or 6 have fallen. There are a couple of small outlying stones and several
larger stones in the cairn. We thought we could see a cupmark on the side
of the two largest stones.

The track continues
north towards the trees of Bunker’s Hill Wood where another nearby site
can be visited. Hob’s
Hurst House From Park Gate circle continue on the track towards the trees to the north. Cross a wooden bridge and go over the stile beside a small gate. Follow the path along the side of the trees to the top of the hill where you turn to the east (right) and follow a track for about 100m to the site. The barrow is fenced in but there is a stile providing access.

The barrow is covered in thick heather and vegetation but the features are clear. The mound is almost 8m square with a ditch around it. On the top is an arrangement of stones that seems to have been disturbed so we couldn’t tell what it was but it might have ringed the top of the barrow.
