Carn Urnan
Ring Cairn
NH 566 523

From Tore roundabout take the A835 west for about 2 miles and after the trees on the right take a left turn into a narrow lane. Continue down for about ¼ mile to the first crossroads leading to farms. There is room to stop here and the circle is in the garden of the farmhouse to the left. Walk 200 metres or sop to the house and ask to see it. There was nobody in when we went and you can see some of the circle and cairn from the front door.

A couple of the circle stones and cairn can be seen in the shrubs

This is a Clava passage tomb and is in good condition. Four stones still stand in the outer ring, by the washing line, the tallest being about 1.8 metres high. Three others have fallen. The kerb cairn is partly visible among shrubs and is about 12.5 metres across but we couldn’t see the tomb entrance or passage to the 4.3 by 3.4 metre inner chamber. The circle itself is about 22 metres diameter.

Two more of the circle stones by the washing line
