Brisworthy
Stone Circle
SX 565 655

From Sheepstor drive on to the junction for the Drizzlecombe site, instead of turning here continue on and drive over the moor for 1.5 miles. At the junction turn left towards Cadover Bridge and take the next left signed Brisworthy. Park at the end on the roadside. Walk on between the farm buildings on the rough lane uphill and when it turns sharply to the right follow the line of the wall to a stile. This is the footpath. (If you continue on the lane and take the left grassy fork you will come to the circle but the gate is padlocked) Cross the stile and turn right and follow the wire fence along to reach the circle.

From here the Ringmoor cairn circle and then the kerb cairn are almost directly in a NNW line from this circle at about 300m intervals)

Brisworthy is a very attractive site and a pleasant place to sit especially as there was a short burst of sunshine when we reached it making a break from a misty and overcast day. The circle is over 80ft (24.8m) diameter and made up of 27 stones from an original 42. They are grey granite, some with quartz veins running through them and large quartz crystals in them. There are several loose stones that have been added to the circle.

The tallest stones are to the north reaching 1.1m. The circle was restored in 1909 as only three stones were standing then.

If you walk steadily up the gentle hill in a NNW direction you will come to the Ringmoor cairn circle.
