Stone Circles
SX 638 832

From Fernworthy circle continue along the forestry track, go straight over the next crossroad, ignore the next right turn and straight over the next two crossroads. When you start going downhill you will come to a gate opening out onto the moor. Go through and head south keeping in line with the wall. When you reach the top of a rise you should be able to see the stones ahead in the distance just over a stone wall. There is a vague path heading towards it that goes through a gate in the wall that will lead to the circles.

This is a very impressive site but the weather was dreadful when we were there and the photos are gloomy as there was little light. The two circles are almost touching and are aligned almost north – south of each other. The stones are granite and are all fairly consistent in size ranging between 4–4.5 ft (1.2–1.4m). The site was excavated in 1898 and restored in 1909.

The northern circle has 20 stones remaining and is over 100ft (32.7m) diameter and the southern is almost the same size with 29 stones and a diameter of 32.9m.
