Machrie Moor Stone Circles

Machrie Moor 2
Stone Circle
NR 911 324

Three huge sandstone pillars remain standing here, the tallest is 17ft 5inches (5.3m) They are visible for miles and very impressive.

Beside them are two millstone shapes that have been cut from broken stones here but abandoned. One is broken and has the axle hole cut in it, probably causing the break. The circle is around 42 ft (12.8m) across and in a superb setting with hills and mountains in the distance.

It is a very peaceful place. The huge sandstone slabs are believed to have been transported from Achanar, some 2 miles away.
