Aberscross
Stone Circle
NH 770 991

Follow the A9 to Wick and take the left turn on the A839 to Lairg. After about ¾ mile the circle is on the right about 30 metres uphill from the road on a flat area. Park in the first layby after the trees on the right and walk back to a field gate about 80 metres down the road. You might get a glimpse of the tall stone among the bracken from the road before you reach the layby. Go through the gate and make your way uphill through the bracken and thistles. Head to the left (north).

We had to excavate the bracken to find the fallen stones even though they are quite large. We counted 6 stones here in this 25 ft (7.5 metre) diameter circle, three have fallen. The tallest is about 6.5 ft (2m) to the SSE and seems to be a conglomerate. There was an oval cist in the centre of the circle but all we could see was more bracken.
