Wed 25th July The
Ord, Lairg The trail starts at the visitor centre across the river from Lairg and leads uphill to two burial chambers, Ord North and South. The site also contains large numbers of hut circles, burial chambers and a burnt mound.
Ord North burial chamber is in good condition but the chamber entrance has been filled in. The cairn has a forecourt to the east and only part of the passage and structure is visible. Some of the kerb stones can be seen.

Further on up the path on the summit is Ord South. Only a few upright stones of the chamber survive on the hilltop which is a lovely setting with excellent views but is ruined by the grotesque aerial mast in front.
View from summit towards Ord North There are a few other tomb remains on the route and the walk continues to about 200 metres from what could be a bracken covered henge in the next field to the southeast. Returning to the carpark you pass a burnt mound where a lot of charcoal, cracked stones and ash have been found. It is thought to have been the site of a communal cooking area for the ancient village.
