Giants’
Graves If you follow the A481 south to Whiting Bay there is a walk which takes you to a series of chambered tombs called Giants’ Graves as well as waterfalls and an iron age fort. Park on the sea edge near the Youth Hostel and the walk is signposted and has a map board. The ½ mile is not accurate, it is at least twice that uphill including about 265 steps. The climb goes up among moss covered trees and huge pines and when you reach the top of the steps turn left and follow the trail on until a fork in the path. Take the right and you come to a glade where there is a series of tombs.
The largest is about 20ft (6m) long with huge stones. The capstone
is covered in old carved graffiti, one dating back to 1889. A few metres
to the south are the remains of several other tombs.
