Six Stones
Stone Circle
SO 163 516

From Old Radnor head SW on the B4594. A map is essential for this site. At Newchurch turn right and drive for a couple of miles then turn left for Glasnant then fork right. This very narrow lane leads to a gate, then over a ford. Continue to a sharp bend just beyond a cattlegrid and park.  Follow the track west uphill and carry on for about ¾ mile. When you see a grassy track forking to the right uphill, take this and it will meet a track that you follow uphill. Take the right bend and it will take you to the Mawn Pools. From here head north through the dense heather. (We found a slightly easier route back that went along the edge of the second pool to meet a channel through the heather – this was a little easier going)

When we reached the Glasnant valley stream we searched for some time in the thick heather but couldn’t find the stones and had to abandon this as time was running out and the weather was poor. We will come back in the winter.

This circle is not made up of 6 stones as the name might suggest but 14 or more small thin sandstone slabs stand in a 24m (80ft) circle. The stones are low and certainly not easy to see when the vegetation is taller than them.

If anyone has found the circle could you please email me.
