St David’s Head/Coetan Arthur
Burial Chamber
SM 725 280

From the A487 to the east of St David’s take the B4583 to Whitesands Bay and carry on th the carpark at the beach. You have to pay £1.50 to park and this is the only access point for this burial chamber, however it is an excellent walk up along the cliffs to reach it. (Also dogs are not allowed on the beach in summer but can go on the footpath) Take the gate beside the carpark to meet the coastal footpath.

It is a very pleasant walk to the head and follows along the cliffs. After a while you will see the slipped capstone ahead in the distance on the skyline and see a small track that climbs up to it. Remember where this is because you cannot see it later from the path and might walk right past it. Take this right turn off the path and climb steeply upwards.

You will come to the chamber between two rocky outcrops. The views are superb here and while we were there a small herd of horses were grazing near the summit. The large capstone is about 10x5ft (3x1.5m) and is supported on the one remaining upright that is about 4ft (1.2m) high. There are also hut circles near the tip of the promontory and the area was used as a settlement for the Iron Age Demetae people.
