Cevin Z was bought at Zangersheide Foal Auction in 1997 and was the second highest priced colt. He was bred by Mr van de Bruggen in Holland, who has had consistently high priced foals at this auction. Cevin Z is by Coriall Z out of International jumping mare Larthago, who is by Carthago Z, one of Zangersheide Stud's most successful stallions. Carthago Z, under Jos Lansink, went double Olympic. Cevin Z has impeccable jumping bloodlines and is passing his excellent temperament and showjumping scope, technique and ability to his youngstock. Conquistador II and Call Me Smartie, who are Cevin's first progeny to compete, were 1st and 2nd in the 5 year old British Classic Young Horse Championship at Addington in 2006. Call Me Smartie can be seen jumping with Steven Franks, who has carefully produced her, and they will be campaigning the 6 year old qualifiers for Horse of the Year Show this year, as will Conquistador II, who will be ridden by his owner/breeder David Clarkson. Cevin Z has been with William Funnell since he was three. William, recognising his talent, has taken his time to bring him on, and Cevin is ready to go International this year. Cevin Z was 4th, as a 6 year old, in the prestigious Foxhunter Championship at Horse of the Year Show in 2003 with Steven Franks who was then William Funnell's stable jockey. Cevin Z spent the 2004 stud season at Catherston, and from there went to West Kington Stud to have semen frozen for Europe, America and the Southern Hemisphere. West Kington are the renowned experts in freezing and storing frozen semen under the expert guidance of Martin Boyle. Cevin Z's semen, both chilled and frozen, is of excellent quality, and his frozen semen has an excellent rate of conception, with a majority of mares conceiving first time. His first American offspring were on the ground in 2006. Cevin's stud fee has been kept at a low rate, whilst his semen is only available frozen. West Kington Stud are quoting a success rate with frozen semen in excess of 80%. William Funnell and Donal Barnwell have one of the biggest breeding progammes in the UK, having approximately 50 brood mares. Cevin Z is playing a major role in this programme, with William now having Cevin 4 and 5 year olds in the ring showing excellent jumping ability and temperament, with many more in the pipeline. William and Donal use top quality brood mares, mostly Grade A's and International mares and this is reflected in the success of Billy Orange, Billy Birr and Billy Congo who is a son of William and Donal's stallion Vechta. Vechta is standing in Ireland again this year and is also available by frozen semen. Billy Congo is also available by frozen semen, for details contact the Billy Stud. |
