CFAM3 and CFAM3c :
The present software issue is Cf3v3 for CFAM3 monochrome and cf43_201 for CFAM3c. If you need an upgrade E-mail us for details. The latter includes four channels of CFM simulation.
There are some retrospective upgrades available for old CFAM3 head-boxes. If yours was not upgraded we did send an upgrade quotation but maybe you lost it or you don't need it. E-mail us for details.
It is possible to upgrade the CFAM3 processor and display to CFAM3c standard. This will be necessary if your monochrome display fails. E-mail us for details.
There may occasionally be a problem with the cases menu crashing when you have more than 100 cases in a research study. If so your software has not been updated. E-mail us.
The 'cable tidy' fingers on the back of the machine are meant to be rotatable They click into position diagonally outwards. Please do not tighten these fingers so that they cannot move. This will cause nurses to use force to release the cables.
Encryption key problem
It has been found that the encryption key supplied with the CFAM3 brain monitor, to enable DATA replay software to run on a PC, has a problem with computers running at 400MHz and above. However the problem can be cured easily by an amendment to a configuration file. The file, named DK2.CFG, will be found in the software directory cfamt/44bcf3a or cfamt/cf3v3 depending upon the software issue.
*Configuration file
Main delay=770 or some such number
HundredMS=30
HPModeOff=0
LastDK2Version=14 or another number near to this.
LPTPort=378 the external parallel port address.
Using a text editor such as MSDOS edit or Windows WORDPAD, change the HundredMS from 30 to 90. Please do not use a word processor to do this as it will change the format of the file and make it unreadable.
Please add the above information to your manual.
Rare problems for local service engineer to fix:
1) On CFAM3 occasionally the right arrow key may do multiple steps on a single press. Add a 3k3 resistor from ground to pin 19 on the 20way IDC connector on CA05.
We also recommend that you connect 56pF from L/R line to ground on CA04 (pin 10 to 8 on JP1, or pin 1 to C on RP4).
2) Hard disc replacement. Use a 3.5 or 2.5inch IDE hard disk with a high g shock rating .Set fdisk to make maximum size c,d,e and f partitions. Note that this disk uses mounting screws type UNC 6x1/4 with washer and lock washer.
Re-install DOS and then re-install CFAM software from the streamer back-up copy.
3) On one batch of CFAM3c the impedance of the 5 volt line to the backplane slowly rises over years, causing obscure faults including resets. This is caused by one of the connectors. The cure is to parallel the existing 5 volt path with 5mm braid in two layers of heat-shrink insulation. This goes direct from the power supply +5volt connections to the screw terminal on the backplane. Check that you are making the correct connections before doing this.
Returning Equipment to RDM for service
Please pack your equipment carefully. Unfortunately some carriers may drop the carton some 4 to 5 feet from the back of a lorry. Ensure that you use about 6 inches of plastic chips around the equipment to cushion it from such shocks. Also placed the equipment in a sealed plastic bag to minimise abrasion between the chips and the paint-work and/or display face. Carriers do tend to keep the carton with the address side upwards. CFAM1s and CFAM2s should be packed with the equipment on its base. The CFAM3(c) should be packed on its side with the crash bars down-most and with the head-box wrapped separately and taped to the uppermost side. If you must pack it upright, put a wooden board between the base and the plastic chips so that pressure is taken either on the equipment feet or on the rim of the base. Remember that damage in transit means we have to charge you to repair it. Please also check that the base of the carton is properly taped with new tape. We have seen one case where old tape has split and the equipment has dropped out of the bottom of the carton in transit.
Within the UK we normally use City Link who include adequate insurance in their price and who keep cartons in cages to prevent them falling about.
CFAM1: Made by Health Care Developments.
Obsolete. It is unlikely that we could repair it but we can look at it.. We still have some parts. You can try to get pens and
CFAM2:
Obsolete. Not repairable unless the fault is a simple one such as a broken cable. Data recorded on this monitor can be replayed by CFAM3/4. Replacement hard discs are a problem. A 50pin SCSI3 disc might work. However DOS will only permit access to about the first 900Mbytes of the disc. Jumpers on the disc should only be in the following places: SCSI Term and Trgt Init.
DOS warning. Do not try to install Microsoft DOS 6.22 there seems to be a compatibility problem between this and the hard disc controller. It may cause lock-up after a directory search.
Last software issues ( in 1994 ) were 2.09B-510 for the basic monitor and 2.07R for the research version. If your software was not upgraded these are still available for free. E-mail us for details.
