CFM (Cerebral Function Monitor)
The CFM was developed by D E Maynard in 1967/68 at The London Hospital in Whitechapel, London, UK, in response to a need in Intensive Care for continuous EEG monitoring. At that time, but not now, EEG was one of the factors taken into account in assessing brain death. Since it was to monitor changes that were generally global only one channel was needed.
Pamela F Prior was one of those who encouraged the invention of the CFM., incorporating CFM data in her MD thesis. Much of the success of this instrument was due to her endeavours.
Versions of the CFM were produced by Devices, Critikon and Lectromed.
