Introduction
RDM Consultants normally advise the users of CFAM monitors never to use single channel inter-hemispheric electrode placements such as bi-parietal in Intensive Care as this electrode placement can give clinically misleading indications.
However new users mainly interested reproducing single channel CFM studies may wish to proceed without looking at multi-channel or CFAM format data until they feel competent in the use of the monitor.
For example the Toby neonate protocol requires a single channel CFM trace and this is so whether or not a preceding or later multi-channel recording shows an asymmetry or localised feature.
The CFAM4 is approved for use in the Toby Study
The CFAM4 is controlled mainly via four arrow keys in the top right corner of a touch-screen.
Up and Down move a highlight up and down menus.
Left goes back to the previous menu.
Right selects the highlighted item.
Switch on the CFAM.
After a while a menu will appear.
Highlight the item "RecordF"
Press the right arrow .
The next menu is a list of electrode derivations that have been pre-set on the CFAM for various purposes.
For the Toby study go down the menu and highlight "Toby".
Press the right arrow.
On the screen will appear a picture of where to place the electrodes.
When you have done this, press the right arrow.
A touch keyboard will appear on the screen and a line on which entered patient information is shown . The keyboard has upper and lower cases with accents.
When you have completed this press the Enter key.
Confirm the data you have entered by pressing the right arrow. If you want to alter it press the left arrow.
The CFAM will now enter the CFAM format recording mode. If other screen displays appear before this, repeatedly press the right or left arrow as advised on-screen until the CFAM display appears.
To change the format to CFM press the left arrow to place the highlight on the small screen button labelled CFAM4. Then press the up arrow. The display will now be in CFM format.
Note, the display moves up the screen, not left to right. This enables alpha-numeric annotations of the trace to be horizontal and in line with the events to which they refer.
Place the highlight on the button labelled "Chart", press the down arrow. This starts the chart recorder and begins saving data to the internal storage........................continued
