Maintenance
Even when electrical systems are properly installed they still require
periodic maintenance to ensure trouble free operation.
In particular cable terminations should be checked for tightness and
corrosion and where necessary should be cleaned and coated with
dielectric grease. Cable
insulation should be checked for cracking and cable runs for security.
Generally such maintenance takes only a few hours and we recommend that
it is done at the end of the season.
The system is then ready for the winter lay-up and the next
season.
Testing
As well as basic maintenance described above it is also good practice to
test important parts of the system are running correctly.
Such tests include:
- Alternator
output
-
Battery
condition
- Main
cable/isolator integrity
- VHF
radio/antennae operation
- Galvanic
bonding
