Tuesday
7.30 - 9pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church Hall, Lower Road, Effingham, Surrey KT24 5JP
These general yoga classes are particularly suitable for pregnant women and new mums. The emphasis is on breath awareness, freedom from tension, ease of movement and relaxation. The group is small and friendly and Cherry has many years of experience teaching pregnancy yoga. Classes are held during school terms with a week off at half term. Beginners and those with experience of yoga are all welcome after 14 weeks of pregnancy.
Practising the gentle stretches of yoga can help to prepare your body for labour and birth. Backache and other minor discomforts of pregnancy such as cramp, restless legs, heartburn and breathlessness may also be relieved. One class every half term includes positions for labour and coping strategies for labour. Learning to relax properly provides a way of reducing anxiety and improving the quality of sleep. Students regularly mention how helpful breath awareness is during labour and it is also useful for reducing stress.
A partner’s birth preparation class and a one off class on positions for labour and coping strategies are also available on request.
