2005 - News and Updates

8 December 2005

Lettie has found some new images of Julia at some UN dinner on wireimage and gettyimages.

1 December 2005

Both Jo and Lettie told me about this:

"Actress Julia Ormond receives the Champion of Peace Award at the Women For Women International Honoring Queen Rania of Jordan at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel on November 19, 2005 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Michael Buckner/Getty Images)."

There are more pictures at wireimage and getty, etc.

21 November 2005

Jo and Lettie have alerted me to new pics available at www.gettyimages.com (under Editorial/Entertainment) and REX Features of Julia attending this years Adopt-a-Minefield event.

6 October 2005

Eszter found some more material about Julia's Russian journey. Here is the link for the TPAA's index site of the images:
www.tpaa.net/image/userfiles/Image/
If you click on the first 10 links (3546.jpg, 3596.jpg, etc.) you can find huge photos of Julia in Russia. There are the four which they already used for one of the articles and the others that were used in the TPAA's article about Julia's tour in a smaller version.

27 September 2005

Jo, Kimberly and Eszter were all in touch with the same Julia news. She was in Moscow as the new advocate of Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS (TPAA), a non-governmental organization battling the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Russia and Ukraine.

This is the link found at yahoo (with some links to GIGANTIC photos of Julia):
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2005/9/prweb287807.htm

At the site of the organization there is a lot more material: http://www.tpaa.net/events/?id=384

Eszter also found some pics from that Sacred Award Gala. at www.rexfeatures.com

And here's some that Eszter sent me from www.lfi.co.uk.

I hope I've not left anyone out. I got a number of emails about this.

21 September 2005

Jo sent me these two little Julia photos from the Conscious Humanitarian thingie.

Both Lettie and Todd tell me that there are more of these photos of Julia at www.wireimage.com. And yes, she does look great!

A word of thanks to Jo for sorting me out with the Beach Girls tapes. My thoughts:

  • It was very girlie.
  • Julia was great.
  • It was really very girlie.
  • It was really good to see Julia acting again.
  • The rest of the cast were adequate until Julia turned up and then you realised what acting really is.
  • It was very girlie.
  • Rob Lowe did the quiet stubble dignity thing well.
  • Some shots of Julia reminded me why I've liked her so much since 1995. Nineteen Freeking Ninety-Five!!!!
  • Summers look a bit chilly at Hubbard's Point

8 September 2005

Jo and Kimberly both let me know about this.

Julia is getting another award — a Conscious Humanitarian award given by the Living Wellness Foundation at their Sounds of the Sacred Awards Gala Sep 15.

5 September 2005

Here is Lettie's review of Resistance, just out on DVD in the UK! (I'm still waiting on my copy...)

"My DVD of the film, Resistance, arrived yesterday in the post. It was a nice surprise. I had not expected to receive it so soon. I have waited a long time to see this film - about 3 years - and the wait was worth the outcome. A story set in Belgium during the second world war of human sacrifice, courage, bravery, love and betrayal revealed the true depth of Julia Ormond's acting talent. It was Julia Ormond at her very best.

"She plays a member of the Belgian resistance who saves the life of an American airman (Bill Paxton). His plane has crashed in a remote Belgian village. Julia's character displays the usual combination of intelligence, moral integrity, strength, vulnerability and innocence (which we have come to expect from all her roles) in her attempts to get the stranded American to safety.

"With an excellent supporting cast the film provides a great insight into the lives of the ordinary people, their trials and tribulations, who lived through the second world war. It is a very human story that will bring tears to the eyes."

25 August 2005

Jo found "an article (dated 8/23/05, primarily about Justin Theroux) that mentions a David Lynch "digital video" movie project called INLAND EMPIRE (Mr. Lynch insists that it's all CAPS but has never explained why). Seems that Mr. Lynch is being closed mouthed about the project he's been working on for two years. On the IMDb there's only a partial cast; in a Variety article, Lynch declined to list the "many others" in the cast. Anyhooooo... Theroux was surprised to see Julia Ormond appear on the set about two weeks ago — pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless. Then he was handed a scene and he finds out for the first time that Ms. Ormond is playing his wife!! — another pleasant surprise...for him and for us!!! IMDb shows the film is slated for 2006."

Jack Request: If you have a webpage or a blog could you please put in a little link to this Julia page? It's not turning up on Google and I get emails from people asking why I haven't updated it in the last year. I no longer have access to the old site to make changes. If a few new links point here then maybe the google rating will improve. Many thanks kind folk!

23 August 2005

Just a non-Julia announcment. Sad news. Lettie's little dog Jo had to be put to sleep at the weekend. Lettie has been a long time contributor the the page and some of you will have corresponded with her.

On a related note I have been toying with the idea of a "contributors" page for all of you have been helping with the page for so many years. If anyone would like to be involved let in touch.

15 August 2005

Sorry for the lack of updates due to:

  • Not wanting to go near computer
  • Work
  • Studying Astronomy
  • Reading new Gerald Seymour novel
  • Head cold
  • Painting model of RAF Victor aircraft

Mari send me a bunch of online Beach Girls reviews. Here's a link to one of them with the following quote.

"Ormond's performance makes you wonder why she hasn't been in anything memorable on the big screen lately."

www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/12281858.htm

Here are Lettie's thoughts:

All the Julia fans will understand how exasperating it has been for the past few years with little or no new material emerging from La Ormond. I was experiencing withdrawal symptoms big time so when my Beach Girls video (copy) arrived in the post (courtesy of my good friend Jo) a whole afternoon had to be set aside to watch it. I was told that Julia would appear about 15 minutes into the programme. I could hardly wait to see her and was tempted to fast forward to her first appearance. I was also worried that we might have another IJA here with little Julia screen time. Phew...what a relief to find otherwise. Beach Girls was well worth the wait. Julia's acting is superb. She is more beautiful now at the age of 40 than she was a decade ago. She outshines all the other actresses in the show. She gives her character (like all her characters) depth, grace, and intelligence.

The title 'Beach Girls' suggests something quite erotic but for those into that kind of thing... disappointment awaits. I think that the story is a very clean and heart warming one. It is a rites of passage drama and also an exploration of the impact that important decisions have on people later in life. It explores adolescent love, heartbreak, friendships, tragedy, betrayal and reconciliation. It is well worth a watch even if you are not a Julia Ormond fan.'

Jack's first thoughts:

  • It's Julia! Look! On the screen! Acting!
  • That surfer guy has one hell of a jaw.
  • It's all very girlie (but I still want to know what happened back in "the day").
  • and finally... It's Julia! Acting!

Oh, I've got around to ordering the UK DVD of Resistance from www.play.com/ It's supposed to be out in September and it looks like Julia's face is on the cover. I'll let y'all know if and when it arrives.

1 August 2005

Jo tells me that the author of Beach Girls has nice things to say about Julia on her blog. The link is farther down the page somewhere!

"I introduced Mia to Julia–-who was so dear and kind, welcoming to Mia and connecting to me. I wish I could know Julia better. She is such a radiant actor and person. I think I have that backwards—the woman she is informs the work she does. But you know what I mean…she glows from within, with a combination of spark, art, and seeing. Watching her act, she is absolutely transparent. She becomes the character so totally in scene after scene, I completely forget that Stevie is a creation—that she's not real. Julia makes her real—as she does every other character I've ever seen her play."

Mari found the review of Beach Girls at www.hollywoodreporter.com.

27 July 2005

Eszter has sent me a bunch of Julia pictures from Beach Girls and an Iron Jawed Angels interview. You can see them on the new Julia Ormond Overflow Page.

Thanks to Mari who has found a Beach Girls article at tennessean.com. If the link does not work then type "ormond" into the search box.

25 July 2005

Lettie tells me that she has listened to the Julia interview. "She talks about her character 'Stevie' who has been married three times and who feels that she is being judged by the community where she lives. Also she talks about her real life first French kiss when she was about 13 years of age. She was with her sister who encouraged her to kiss a boy who incidentally was French."

There are some more new pics of JO at Luanne Rice's personal blog. She is standing in the middle of two other women. She is smiling and her hair is tied back.

20 July 2005

The beach girls site has been updated. There's a wallpaper of Julia wearing a hat in the "downloads" section. A little photo gallery where you can't save the photos and a new (I think) video. No speakers on my computer so I don't know what they're saying. Julia seems to be second billing after Rob Lowe so that's okay.

There are a few little photos of Julia on the author's blog. Also some bonus photos of cats.

I watched two episodes of Traffik last week. Class.

27 June 2005

Thanks again to Jo. She's sent me a link to the Beach Girls page on the Lifetime website. www.lifetimetv.com/shows/beachgirls/.

There is a little trailer with a gimpse of Julia answering the door. At least I think it's her. Seems to be back to the long hair.

There's a link to the author's blog that has a couple of pics of Julia, one of which is here:

22 June 2005

Jo found a link with a load of info about the Beach Girls mini-series: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050621/nytu096.html?.v=11.

14 June 2005

A few people have told me about the Resistance DVD release in the UK. The original date has come and gone and I have a feeling that the thing never was released. One website has a September release date. In any case here is the cover image...

If anyone sees it on sale please let me know!

26 May 2005

Jo found this in a Variety column. I don't know what to make of two pices of news in the same year...

Knife Edge, Thriller; producers, Chris Craib, Fiona Combe; director, Anthony Hickox; cast, Olivier Martinez, Julia Ormond, William Hurt. A husband in despair after losing his business embarks on a plan to drive his wife insane. In production.

24 May 2005

Well done to Kim for finding this!

From Variety.com:

Rob Lowe and Julia Ormond are set to star in cable TV network Lifetime's Beach Girls. Based on Luanne Rice's bestselling novel, the six-hour miniseries stars Lowe as a grieving widower who retires to a New England coastal community. Ormond plays a childhood friend of Lowe's late wife -- one of the titular "beach girls" -- who gets drawn back into his life.

The Mini-series is scripted by Edith Swensen, Elle Triedman and Eric Tuchman and will be produced by Robert Greenwald Prods. in association with Fox Television Studios. Greenwald and Alys Shanti (Lifetime's "Plain Truth") are serving as exec producers.

Chelsea Hobbs ("Lords of Dogtown") and Chris Carmack ("The OC") round out the cast as Jack's daughter and a teen heartthrob, respectively.

Lowe recently wrapped the indie "Thank You for Smoking" opposite Aaron Eckhart, Robert Duvall and Katie Holmes. He'll next be seen in the West End revival of "A Few Good Men," by his former "West Wing" collaborator (and the series' creator) Aaron Sorkin, at Royal Haymarket Theater.

Ormond recently appeared in HBO telepic telepic "Iron Jawed Angels" with Hilary Swank, Anjelica Huston and Frances O'Connor. "Beach Girls" will mark her first appearance on an American TV series.

Mini will air over five consecutive Sundays, starting July 31.

17 January 2005

This from Jo: "AT LAST...some news...and good news at that!! I finally got around to listening to Ms. Ormond's interview on the Integral Naked site and, lo 'n behold, they started out taking about her new status as a MOTHER!!! No mention of the baby's name, but it is a little girl."

4 January 2005

Happy birthday to Julia. I'm told it's her 40th! Yikes! No other news. Of course.
