2006 - News and Updates19 December 2006This just in from Jo... "Ormond is Lohan's Mom in Killed Me Source: Variety December 19, 2006 "Julia Ormond is joining Lindsay Lohan in the indie I Know Who Killed Me, directed by Chris Sivertson (The Lost) and produced by Frank Mancuso Jr., reports Variety. The film starts shooting this month in Los Angeles and New York. "Ormond will play the mother of a businesswoman who lets her daughter live an independent life. She is horrified when her daughter is kidnapped, but more so when her daughter is found alive but insists she's someone else. "Ormond next will be seen in David Lynch's Inland Empire and is shooting David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button alongside Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt." 28 November 2006Another attempt at a new look to the front page. Shout out if you like it. Or not. And I've dug out a bunch of links for the menu. Looks like I've written more material that I can remember! 9 November 2006First of all, please forgive the new look to the front page. I am trying it out and seeing if it sticks. Second of all here are Julia's answers to your questions! Many thanks to Julia and Marcel. And thanks also to those of you who sent in the questions in the first place! Q: What can you tell us about your two new film projects: the new David Lynch film " Inland Empire " and Steven Soderbergh's "Guerrilla"? What was the experience like of working with David Lynch? What's role is next for you? Julia: The Lynch has now come out in Venice and also now in the US. What I would most want to say is what an amazing and exciting thing it was for me to work with him as a Director. In fact both Soderbergh and Lynch are true craftsman at what they do which means they can work at the speed of light which is fabulous for the actor and flow of the work. Much of filming actors energy is devoted to trying to keep an internal momentum going through endless (necessary but endless!) interruption, and both Lynch, who was being so out-there, artistic and inventive with video - knocking off extensive scene coverage in minutes not hours, and Soderbergh who is his own cinematographer and cameraman working extremely quickly just made both feel seamless. Not everyone is talented enough to do that and both of them are and they then use the time that buys you to focus on performance at a level that's just blissful to work with. I also really appreciated the freedom playing small roles gave me and how both directors valued that. Q: It seems like in the editing process of every movie there's always a number of scenes that get cut out or trimmed down. Has there ever been a scene you especially liked or worked hard on that you were disappointed to find out ended up on the cutting room floor? Julia: I think I've been really lucky, I usually am fully behind stuff that gets cut being cut! There was a scene in Legends that I just adored because it was symbolic to me, and I thought Ed Zwick’s editing of the movie was so intelligent and brilliant that its sort of odd to pick this moment, but there was a tiny text-less scene (I love those more I think) where Susannah is walking in the woods reading one of Tristan's letters, and gets spooked and realizes she's lost and turns panicked and runs; she runs smack into One-stab, the native American who's been keeping an eye on her, and I just loved it, but don't think it made it in the movie Q: What film role are you proudest of? Julia: Probably Barber of Siberia Q: How can we, ordinary people, help you in your humanitarian work? Julia: God, what an amazing and beautiful question - if you're serious about this one I can try and think of some sort of constant hook in to stuff that I'm doing. I've been hugely focused recently on the trafficking and slavery role with the UNODC, and still participating in FilmAid International. But I'm a big believer that huge global issues need everyone to participate in the solution, so let me get back to you on that one, and in the meantime maybe you could post the web-sites - (we're currently talking about how we could improve UNODC website.) (Happy to oblige! Here they are!) www.filmaidinternational.org and www.UNODC.org Q: Tell us about blending motherhood with your acting and humanitarian work schedule. Julia: Not easy, but I have found doing smaller roles both liberating and fabulous to take on and easier to fit in, and more manageable, and the humanitarian stuff I do because it makes me feel less depressed about the world and less impotent in the face of what otherwise feel like overwhelming stuff, so it helps me feel more balanced. My greatest role though by far is Mum and my greatest mission is to be the very best version of myself for her and try and be the best parent I can. Q: What do you think is your best physical feature, and your worst? Your best personality trait, and your worst? Julia: Urgh! I really like my hands - although they're really beaten up form playing lacrosse at school and only one finger doesn't have a scar on it, my worst is such a toss up in a long list from my perspective and some are just unprintable! Personality traits to me are often what seems like something that is a strength, when it gets out of hand can become my worst - I'm incredibly tenacious which means I don't give up easily which in this profession or indeed in life means I'm not stopped by failure (usually) and just accept it as not the right time or something to be looked at and learnt from. Of course tenacity can become stubbornness which more than one person has accused me of. I think I'm quite courageous and can tell a mean dirty joke, but I can also be incredibly scatty and have lousy follow-through - something I constantly work on! Thanks again to Julia for taking the time (and she must have taken time!) for her answers. Now go visit those sites folks! 22 October 2006No word yet on the answers to your questions... Lettie has let me know about a new Julia movie listed on the IMDB. It's called The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, "An odd romance sparks between a woman of 30 and a man who, at 50, begins aging backwards." It will be directed by David Fincher but is not due until 2008. Also Lettie tells me that Julia has appeared in new photos on wireimage and getty images. 22 September 2006Thanks for you submissions to the "ask Julia a question" project. When I get a reply I will post it here. Both Kim and Jo let me know about Julia's blog post up over at The Huffington Post. They have a section entitled Becoming Fearless and Julia posted a short piece called "The Upside of Fear." It gives us a little more insight into the person behind our favorite actress. www.huffingtonpost.com/julia-ormond/the-upside-of-fear_b_29540.html30 August 2006Julia to answer your questions! Is there anything you've always wanted to ask Julia? Now's your chance! Email your questions to me and I'll pick out the best four or five that arrive in the next few days. They will be forwarded to her 'people' and we'll see what happens next... 17 July 2006Kimberly has just told me that Julia's pilot The Way was not picked up by CBS for its fall line up. Lettie, I think you said that would happen, so you were right! 15 June 2006Lettie has found some new Julia photos at getty Images and other news photo sites. Look under "Sir Sean Connery Receives The 34th AFI Life Achievement Award". I also notice some photos under "Julia Ormond Testifies Before House Hearing On Human Trafficking". Anyway, here's three that I nicked...
8 June 2006Yesterday I was flicking through a movie magazine and I saw an advert for a DVD of Captial City. It's a British TV show from 1989 that Julia is supposed to be in. It's released on Monday 12 June and has a retail price of £29.99, although it should be cheaper than that online.
1 June 2006Nothing to do with Julia. Lettie has asked me to put up a photo of her dog Jo who passed away last summer. She tells me that Jo watched Julia Ormond movies with her so must have been a fan as well!
9 May 2006Jo has reminded me that the Beach Girls DVD (region 1) is released on 16 May 2006.
27 April 2006Not really news as such... If you have the digital channel ITV3 in the UK then Julia can be seen in part one of Best Man To Die next Monday 1 May 2006 at 9pm. It's an old story (1990 I think) from the Inspector Wexford series. Julia pops up in it every now and then so it's worth looking at if you've not seen it before. 27 March 2006Mari and kim both sent me some info about Julia reading some poems in New York... www.poets.orgFrom today's New York Times Eat a Poem APRIL 4 — Meryl Streep, Wynton Marsalis, Alan Alda and Julia Ormond will be among those reading at Alice Tully Hall in a benefit for the Academy of American Poets, which works to encourage the reading of poetry and is distributing free copies of "How to Eat a Poem," an anthology of works for children in celebration of National Poetry Month. The readings begin at 6:30, with a cocktail reception and a buffet dinner to follow. Tickets, $400, or $35 for the readings only, from (212) 721-6500. 13 March 2006Lettie found a new thumbnail image of Julia at wireimages. Looks like a post-Oscars party. 2 March 2006Both Jo and Kim have sent me this big news... source: go.reuters.co.uk'Reuters/Hollywood Reporter 'By Nellie Andreeva Tue Feb 28, 2006, 4:49 AM ET 'LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - British actress Julia Ormond is venturing into series television with CBS' drama pilot "The Way." Thanks also to Jo for the alert. 30 January 2006This just in from Mari...
