Legends of the Fall (1994)

Please Note: A much as I try to I can't stand this movie. I like all the actors involved (even the Pittster. Sort of. Even though I doubt that he can actually do the acting thing very well.) but the movie just does not work for me. It's not my thing. I don't want to dislike it but I do.

What I've said on this review page kind of upsets Pitt/Legends fans. I have been called names over it. But it is not my intention to upset that segment of the population. I just think the movie... sucks!

(Proof that Brad Pitt can't act? Watch the last scene of "Seven" again. Morgan Freeman blows him away without even trying.)

Back in early 1995 I was in the cinema every week and I saw the trailer for this movie about a zillion times before it finally came out. It was on constantly, mainly because of Brad Pitt. I didn't really know who Julia was back then, but in among all those loving shotos of Pitt I remember thinking "Wait a minute... Who is SHE?!"

Anyway, I eventually bought the video for £5.99 in a sale. So what did I think of it? Put it this way, I laughed in all the wrong places. It a some sort of lurve quadrangle thing.  There are three brothers and all of them fall in lurve with our Jules. She gets to look lovely in the first half before sort of vanishing in the second half. Tony Hopkins is good until he does a Popeye-the-Sailorman impression. Pitt is the central character but I don't think he pulls it off. (This is the part where I get called names.)

By the way, the trailer looked so crappy that whenever we went to the pictures and got our tickets I'd sort of squint at them and say "Legends of the Fall? Why'd you get tickets for that?"  And my friend would get annoyed.

Okay, so you had to be there...
