First Knight (1995)Another one I missed in the cinemas. It was around about then (summer 1995) that I really started to notice Julia. It goes without saying that she is the best thing in it. But I'll say it anyway: "Julia is the best thing in it." It's about King Arthur and his Knights, just in case you didn't know, hence the clever title play-on-words. It's a sort of lurve triangle thing. Again. King Arthur is played by some Scottish guy. I think I've seen him in some old movies, but I can't be sure.* And Mr Gere is in it. Previously I had very little nice to say about Richard Gere but I have changed my opinion about him. He's not actually that annoying, he can sort of act, and he's got togeather with one of my favourite Bond Girls, Carey Lowell, and they had a baby. Awwwww! Plus he's got that Buddist thing going on, so fair play to the man. Well, this movie is not as bad as I thought it would be. There's lots of running around and jumping on horses and a bit of sword fighting if that's your sort of thing. For a romantic drama type movie there is very little actual physical stuff happening between the Gere and Julia characters. It's all very old-fashioned and looks great. Somehow Julia survives to the end of the movie. I'm shocked! A period piece and Julia lives! It also diverges big time from the King Arthur mythology.
* Note: This is an attempt at humour because I know who Sean Connery is. |
