Next week Ruth Wilson will be taking part in a reading, script in hand, of a stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s film Through A Glass Darkly.

Through a Glass Darkly describes 24 hours in the life of a family vacationing on the island of Fårö, off Sweden's south east coast. Karin [played by Ruth] has been brought to the remote island by her family in order to facilitate her recuperation from a psychotic episode. However, the family’s already fragile ties are tested; with Karin’s father, husband and younger brother so consumed by their own frailties that they cannot prevent her relapse.

The reading will be on May 28 at 6.00 pm & May 29 at 8.00 pm at the Ingmar Bergman International Theater Festival.

I was flipping through one of the TV listings mags here in the UK (it might have been TV and Satellite Week) when I spotted a photo of Numbers 2 and 6 from the new version of The Prisoner on the back page. The text noted that the series is expected "early next year". That's a bit disapointing if true, but I guess we'll have to wait...

Updates have been a bit thin on the ground, but here's news of what Ruth is up to after finishing Small Island.

Grandage also announced further casting for Rob Ashford's production of A Streetcar Named Desire. The previously announced Rachel Weisz (as Blanche DuBois) will be joined by Elliot Cowan as Stanley Kowalski, Barnaby Kay as Mitch and Ruth Wilson as Stella.

Some Small Island production news:

Watch out for...

David Oyelowo, Naomie Harris, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ruth Wilson, who lead the TV drama based on Andrea Levy's novel Small Island.

The drama has a series of intertwining tales about Jamaican Gilbert Joseph, who joins the RAF and fights for Britain during WWII. Later, his wife Hortense joins him in the UK.

'Gilbert tries to settle in Britain after the war and it's like: "Oh, are you still here?" That's the sense he gets from the Brits, even though he was in the war,' Mr Oyelowo told me during a break from rehearsals.

Filming begins next week on locations in Belfast and London.

Interesting. I work in Belfast. Ruth, I'll buy you a coffee if you want. Well, it's worth a try!
