IN 1880 A FLEET OF SMALL SHIPS WERE INAUGURATED TO CARRY TOBACCO FROM SUMATRA TO SINGAPORE. THE "HEBE" AND HER SISTER SHIP "CALYPSO" WERE SPECIALLY BUILT TO EXTEND THIS TRADE FROM BELAWAN (DELI) TO SINGAPORE. SHE WAS ONE OF THE SMALLER SHIPS OF THE BLUE FUNNEL LINE TO ACT AS A FEEDER VESSEL FOR THE FAR EASTERN SERVICE. IN 1910 SHE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE STRAITS STEAMSHIP COMPANY OF SINGAPORE.
The date of building given in the legend is wrong. Eddie Barbour sent me this table giving the correct details. His grandfather, John McMillan had sailed in her some time between 1910 and 1915..
