Message from a Malta Convoy, dated at the time that the aborted convoy ME11, including the Ajax
, arrived back in Port Said (17 June 1942). The story of the convoy can be found at
under the heading Operations Harpoon and Vigorous. Basically, two convoys headed for Malta at the same time, one from Gibraltar and one from Port Said/Alexandria, in the hope that one of them would get through. In the end two ships from the Gibraltar convoy did get through and so relieved a critical situation on the island.
Jim Honeybill was aboard the Ajax on all her Malta convoys and this message was amongst his memorabilia. It was sent to me by his granddaughter, Caroline Davies.
