In many ports local entrepeneurs used to bring their wares aboard and set up a shop on deck. It did their sales no harm at all if they also brought a pretty sales assistant with them, especially if the ship was just in from a long ocean passage. The lads who were off duty would cluster around like the proverbial flies round a honey pot. The pictures were taken aboard the Ajax in 1955 when she was anchored off Moji, Japan. Note the judicious use of a box to preserve the group symmetry.
