The expedition originally expected to send a small recce team to Nayong (south of Bijie) for the first few days of the trip. Hezhang and Zhijin counties were also on the cards. When the main group arrived we were to split the team between Nayong and a small mining town called Qiaojiapu, 320km east-north-east of Bijie in Yanhe Tujia Autonomous County (Tongren Prefecture).

Our plans however rapidly changed and the expedition became focused solely on Yanhe, a small town situated on the banks of the Wu Jiang (river) where the whole team was based.
