The Waveney Sinfonia Musical Society was formed in 1978 and was the brainchild of Richard Featherstone. The aim was to give Waveney (a district in Suffolk, UK) an orchestra and to provide an opportunity for local young people to play with more mature musicians in an orchestra under a professional baton. The orchestra is based in Lowestoft and performs three times yearly (October, January and June). Rehearsals take place during the weekend before each concert and also on the day itself, currently in Benjamin Britten High School, Lowestoft.
