The District includes the counties of Cornwall, Devon and most of Somerset and has a total of some 1400 members.

Within the county of Cornwall there are 20 Clubs, divided into three areas, known as Zones 'A', 'B' & 'C'.  We are in Zone'C' along with the Lions Clubs of
Callington, Launceston, Liskeard, Looe and Saltash.

Torpoint & Rame Peninsula Club is in South East Cornwall on the border with Devon, surrounded on three sides by water; the Rivers Lynher and Tamar, Plymouth Sound and Whitsand Bay:-

Torpoint itself is a small Cornish town situated on the Rame Peninsula in south-east Cornwall. It was created from part of Antony parish in 1819.
Its history has been closely linked with the ferry service to Devonport in Plymouth, which began in the 18th century.  In 1700 Torpoint did not exist but, with the building of the naval dockyard at Devonport, it grew rapidly, with workers there choosing to live across the river near the ferry.

The Torpoint Ferries are one of the main transport links between Devon (Plymouth) and Cornwall (Torpoint).  The majority of passengers are commuters traveling to and from work, however these numbers swell during holiday periods with the addition of tourists visiting Cornwall.
The Rame Peninsula is resplendent with beautiful countryside and landscapes . .

. . and has a wealth of other attractions to suit all tastes; not least the Cornish Coastal Path, together with wonderful country pubs and restaurants, and of course MOUNT EDGCUMBE HOUSE built by Sir Richard Edgcumbe of Cotehele between 1547-53 and set within its 865 acres of Country Park. Also, on the outskirts of Torpoint is ANTONY HOUSE, built between 1711-1721 for Sir William Carew with its superb 25 acre landscaped garden containing many species of indigenous and exotic trees and a collection of camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, magnolias and other flowering shrubs.  This beautiful location, courtesy of the estate, being the venue for our Lions Club's annual Antony House Fair.

In 1939 the naval shore establishment of
H.M.S. RALEIGH was established here in Torpoint, to provide training for new entrants to the Royal Navy.  The base also houses the Royal Naval Supply School, Royal Naval Submarine School, Royal Naval Seamanship School, schools for Firefighting, Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defence, Military and First Aid Training and, is home to the band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Plymouth.
