Torpoint & Rame Peninsula Lions Club is just one of 64 Clubs within District 105SW, all working toward a common goal of "Service to the Community".

District 105SW includes the counties of Cornwall, Devon and most of Somerset having a current total of
1305 members (as at 1st April 2013).

Within the county of Cornwall there are 20 Clubs, divided into three areas, known as Zones 'A', 'B' & 'C'.
Torpoint & Rame Peninsula is in Zone'C' - along with the Lions Clubs of Callington, Launceston, Liskeard, Looe and Saltash.

Torpoint & Rame Peninsula Club is the largest within District 105SW, located in South East Cornwall on the border with Devon, surrounded on three sides by water; the River Lynher, River Tamar and Plymouth Sound and Whitsand Bay:-

Torpoint itself is a small Cornish town situated on the Rame Peninsula in south-east Cornwall. It was created from part of Antony parish in 1819.
Its history has been closely linked with the ferry service to Devonport in Plymouth, which began in the 18th century.  In 1700 Torpoint did not exist but, with the building of the naval dockyard at Devonport, it grew rapidly, with workers there choosing to live across the river near the ferry.

The Torpoint Ferries are one of the main transport links between Devon (Plymouth) and Cornwall (Torpoint).  The majority of passengers are commuters traveling to and from work, however these numbers swell during holiday periods with the addition of tourists visiting Cornwall.
The Rame Peninsula is resplendent with beautiful countryside and landscapes . .

. . and has a wealth of other attractions to suit all tastes; not least the Cornish Coastal Path, together with wonderful country pubs and restaurants, and of course MOUNT EDGCUMBE HOUSE built by Sir Richard Edgcumbe of Cotehele between 1547-53 and set within its 865 acres of Country Park. Also, on the outskirts of Torpoint is ANTONY HOUSE, built between 1711-1721 for Sir William Carew with its superb 25 acre landscaped garden containing many species of indigenous and exotic trees and a collection of camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, magnolias and other flowering shrubs.  This beautiful location, courtesy of the estate, was the past venue for our Lions Club's annual Antony House Fair for many years.

In 1939 the naval shore establishment of
H.M.S. RALEIGH was established here in Torpoint, to provide training for new entrants to the Royal Navy.  The base also houses the Royal Naval Supply School, Royal Naval Submarine School, Royal Naval Seamanship School, schools for Fire-fighting, Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defence, Military and First Aid Training and, is home to the band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Plymouth.
