A superb and very entertaining match took place this afternoon between Torpoint Athletic and Ilfracombe Town. For the first 10-15 minutes both teams cancelled each other out with good midfield play, but slowly Torpoint began to have the edge bringing out two superb saves from long shot efforts, which the Ilfracombe goalkeeper finger-tipped over the bar.
Continued pressure from Torpoint brought the first deserved goal by Rikki Shepherd shortly followed by a missed penalty and Torpoint ended the first half justifiably 1 - 0 up.
The second half began very much as the first with both midfields and defensives controlling the game but then Torpoint began to open up their defence and tested the goalie with several close efforts. The second and third goals shortly followed scored by Rikki Shepherd and Billy Hewlings.  Credit should go to all the players, especially the Torpoint defenders who prevented any serious break-through from Ilfracombe, highlighting Aaran Carter for his great defensive role which left the Torpoint goalkeeper with relatively little to do.
