Where would Jump Blues be without the driving rhythms of the drums? They play an often understated, but essential, role in keeping the toes tapping and the dancers moving. RasCal supplies the beat for us and we’d be totally lost without him - he’s the only one with a SatNav!

Pappy plays the guitar in the band. In Jump Blues the guitar often provides the back beat, which gives the music it’s driving rhythm. In the 40s, to compete with other instruments, the guitar started to became amplified. Musicians such as T-Bone Walker, began to play more than just rhythm, and started to take over the role of lead instrument from the sax, a situation which has continued to this day.

Two-Tone plays double bass (aka wardrobe) and it’s the third one he’s owned. Originally, there was slender Belinda, followed by Bertha who was bigger in size and had creaky joints, and now there’s full bodied, but elderly, Bess - which reflects his own ageing process quite nicely...

Now let me make it quiet clear that I have nothing against Belgians. I worked for a Belgian company for a couple of years and I spent a week on holiday in Belgium and have always found the people and country of Belgium very pleasant. I refuse to be labelled Belgianist.
