Scream Multiplayer

General Information

Scream Multiplayer is based on the Scream trilogy, and is a totally new way to play MotS multiplayer. The details below are copied from the readme, and you can download Scream MP by using the link at the bottom of the page.

Although Scream Multi Player is based on the Mysteries of the Sith engine, there are few similarities between it and the original game. Free play mode (the only mode included with this version) is the simplest way of playing Scream Multiplayer. Each player chooses a character from the four playable ones, and the game obviously works better if each player is a different character. One person should always agree to be the Killer and the other players may choose from the remaining characters. A character may be chosen once, more than once or not at all. Each character has their own attributes and weapons unique to them. In free play mode the object is to simply escape or hurt the Killer whilst the Killer tries to kill as many players as possible. Since this beta only includes free play mode, and there is no mission-based gameplay yet, it may seem a little pointless. However, the main purpose of this beta is for fun only, and the player scores will mean little. Because of the! realistic new features described below, some genuinely "creepy" situations can happen. Scream MP works best with 3 or more players, but it's also fun with two. Ideally, in a four player game, one person would choose to be The Killer, one Sidney, one Dewey and one Tyson.

I've now stopped developing this level for Mysteries Of The Sith, but a (better) JK version is available.

Character Details

All characters have the ability to feign death, but you can still be attacked whilst lying down. Also, each player has voice "taunts" specific to their character, which can be sent to other players. The Killer has all voice taunts, as he has a voice waveform changer. These can be used to help or trick other players.

Being hurt is a much greater disadvantage in Scream MP than it is in normal multiplayer games. Firstly, your character will drip blood, leaving a trail showing where they are. The amount of bleeding increases as you get more injuries. Also, the more hurt you are, the slower you become, making you even more vulnerable, and when you are very injured, you start to breathe heavily, giving away your position.

The House

Scream MP is played in a large, realistic house with many rooms and hiding places, but once you get used to the layout of it, you will be able to get around very quickly. Things to look out for include:

- Light Switches: Turn them on and off to lighten or darken rooms. Sidney has an advantage in the dark because of her torch.

- TVs: Turn them on and they'll partially light up dark rooms with a randomly flashing light.

- Security Camera System: This is located on a computer in the study, and every room has a camera. You can zoom in and out, pan around, and use an infra-red filter on the cameras, but you are vulnerable to other players whilst using them. Simply activate the computer to use the system, and then use the jump and crouch keys to zoom in and out, the mouse to pan around, and the "activate inventory item" key to turn the infra-red filter on and off.

- Cupboards and Wardrobes: Many rooms have cupboards which you can hide in and close the door.

- The Sauna: Turn up the heat and whoever's inside will start taking damage.

- Gas Bottles: Activate them to send them flying into the opposite wall, Max Payne style.

- Glass: All glass in the house, including windows, can be broken to provide escape routes.

- Bookcases: Activate them to topple them onto other players.

- The Maze: The maze in the garden can be a good place to lose a pursuer, and the fountain in the middle offers a vantage point to see one whole side of the house.

- Kitchen Appliances: The cooker and washing machine can be climbed into to hide, but watch out for other players turning them on!

- The Boiler: The utility room houses a large boiler, which can be broken to flood the room with slippery water.

The house contains many, many more interactive objects, some of them useful, some not. Try activating stereos, showers, Jacuzzis, phones, drums, pianos and other objects to see what they do.

Scream MP Facts

- Scream MP began in 2001, but in a very different form. The very first test of the concept was based on Slingsrat's Pool Party Deathmatch. This early version had a few features that were carried through to the finished level, such as voice taunts and blood trails.

- The mansion in Scream MP takes inspiration from many sources - The dual staircase in the entrance hall is based on the one in beta tester Geoffrey Harris's real-life house, the basic bathroom design comes from a magazine and the inset bathroom furniture is based on my own bathroom.

- The electrical appliances in the house are designed from scratch, but the brands on them will be familiar.

- Scream MP was originally going to have moving furniture that could be used to create blockades, but it was scrapped due to numerous bugs and a vast increase in dropped packets and lag.

- The sheet music in the music room is a real piece of music, scanned in and resized.

- The feign death feature is inspired by the fact that the Killer often does similar things in the Scream films. Sidney's throwable bottles are obviously lifted staright out of the garage scene in the original Scream movie.
